Bookbags of Love Testimonials

Book Bags of love is a blessing to families at our Elementary School. The thoughtfulness and generous outreach of members who contribute to the Book-bags of Love program are truly commendable. Each week we witness a miracle taking place in the school office. Food is delivered by caring volunteers to fill the bags to brimming with nutritious, convenient items that sustain and supplement meals for the students who receive them. Please accept my gratitude for your love in serving those in our community who are struggling in this economy. Your partnership with our school is truly appreciated. May God bless your ministry!
- Principal at NC Elementary School
My name is Kelly, I am a teacher at a Elementary School. I would like to share one of the many stories about how the Book bags of Love program has helped to make a difference in the lives of children at our Elementary School. Last year I knew a little five year old girl, who came to school every day but never seemed to smile or raise her hand. It took her months to overcome the shame and share her secret with me, that she was truly hungry and her family did not have any food at home to eat. At school each day she was consumed by the silent worry of wondering if there would be food in her house when she got home or when she would be able to eat again. She would have lunch at school on Friday and not eat again until she returned to the school on Monday. It was wonderful to be able to help take her worry and hunger away by giving her a Book bag of Love. She knew every week that there would be a bag for her to take home and she wouldn’t have to worry about what there would be for her to eat on the weekends. This program helps to provide the wonderful chance to have food on a consistent basis and ease the pressure off young children. Once that worry and pressure was gone they are able to focus on their academics and looked forward to coming to school. Thank you for supporting the Book Bags of Love program by helping to make a real difference in the lives of children and by not only filling their stomachs but also their hearts.
- Teacher at NC Elementary School
As an art teacher at our Elementary school hunger is an issue that none of our students should live with. Many of my students receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch at school. What do these children eat for dinner? What do these children eat on the weekends? Whatever the decisions or circumstances are that have led to these situations, the bottom line is that innocent children, my students, do not have enough food. Book Bags of Love has made a difference at my school. It has been a demonstration of love to the children as well as the adults. Through this program, hungry students now have food over the weekends. Families do not have to worry and wonder where food for the weekend will come from. It has not fallen on individual teachers to buy extra groceries for hungry students. Instead, our community has chosen to show compassion and care for the least of us-our children living in poverty.
